Visually, monsters, foes, and castle characters are simplistically rendered. In particular, I don't find myself depending on strategy to proceed, and combat seems unduly repetitive even for a classic-style RPG. The $14.99 price raised my expectations, but to my dismay I found that many aspects such as combat were neither immersive nor engaging. I have been playing this game for several days now, and while I find the background and story interesting, and the game's design and mechanics are clearly the result of a lot of hard work, I'm not convinced that The Black Fortress is all that it could be.
